Lawrence Pelvit

    of Big Lake, died peacefully August 10, 2018, at the age of 88.

Lawrence was born September 5, 1929. Survived by LaDonna, his loving wife of 66 years; daughters Marly (Herm) and Lauren (Greg); son Bob (Chris); grandchildren Julie (Brian), Andrea, Rachel (Louie), Heidi (Mike), Stefanie, Jennifer (Scott), Jason (Arin); great-grandchildren Nathan, Alison, Ella, McKenna, Shyan, Levi, Liam, Roslyn, Carter, Chase, Alicia, Alex; many family and friends; preceded in death by son-in-law Lyle.

   A celebration of his life will be held Thursday, August 16, at 11 AM at Central Lutheran Church; 1103 School Street NW, Elk River. Visitation one hour prior to service. Private family interment.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

Nancy J. Wolesky

age 68 of Big Lake, passed away peacefully Tuesday August 7, 2018 after an extended battle with cancer.

     She was born on April 7, 1950 in Detroit Lakes the daughter of Arnold and Virginia (Stewart) Gniffke. As an infant her family moved to Owatonna where she was reared. Nancy was a 1968 graduate of Owatonna High School. She attended college at Augustana in Sioux Falls and the University of Minnesota, Morris. On June 6, 1970, Nancy Gniffke and Daniel Wolesky were united in marriage in Owatonna. Nancy worked in several areas and helped manage Midwest Glass Reps of Albertville with her husband for nearly two decades. Preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Virginia Gniffke. Survived by her husband, Dan Wolesky; children, Jennifer (Scott) Shipstad, Mark Wolesky; grandchildren, Annika, Jakob and Lena Shipstad; brother Bill (Lucy) Gniffke; and other family and friends from Maine to California. Nancy was a lifelong committed and serious knitter, there was no style or type that she wasn't able to learn and do. Her collection of yarn is extensive. Nancy was an avid golfer and an accomplished skier who enjoyed her many trips to the Colorado Rockies. She enjoyed traveling to her relatives on the east coast and friends on the west although in recent years she was content to spend time at her cabin on the Big Fork River north of Effie. There, feeding her hummingbirds, watching the wildlife and sharing it all with her grandchildren life couldn't have been better. Memorial service Friday, August 17, 2018 at 6:30 PM, with visitation at 5:30, at The Peterson Chapel, 300 Main St N, St. Michael, MN. James "Jim" Francis Roelike

    age 69, of Becker passed away peacefully on Sept. 4, surrounded by his loved ones.
    Jim was born and raised in Elrosa, MN. He later moved to Becker, MN where he met his wife Patricia McGuire. They were married on July 6, 1973 and raised their family in Becker.
Jim worked for many years at the Becker Public Schools as a head custodian. Jim was a member of the Monticello VFW Post 8731. Jim was known for his sense of humor, woodworking skills, love of being with family, playing cards, and talking to anyone who crossed his path.
    Jim is survived by his loving wife Patricia, his mother Marie, and his children Dawn (Jerry) Valerius, Angela (Chad) Johnson, Stacey (Dan) Starzecki, Bryan (Joy) Roelike, and Rachael (Dave) Roelike; grandchildren Kendra Timm, Toni Torres, Ashley Valerius, Nicolas Valerius, Kalley Johnson, Cody Johnson, Brendan Starzecki, Samuel Starzecki, Avery Starzecki, Kamren Roelike, and Kennedi Roelike; great grandchild Jeremiah Timm; siblings Sue (Jerome) Bender, Jan (Dave) Graning, Sherry (Tom) Woolhouse, Steve Roelike, Debbie (Mike) Madges, Wanda (Virgil) Potter, Pam (Barry) McCalla, Keith (Suzette) Roelike, Mary (Tim) Messer, Brenda (Aaron) Roelike, Shelly (Jud) Erickson, and many nieces and nephews.

Sept 8 , followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Mary of the Visitation Catholic Church in Becker.     A luncheon to celebrate his life will be held directly after. Arrangements have been entrusted to Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Becker.

Gerald "Gary" Johnson

    A Celebration of Life will be held Thurs., Sept. 13,  from 4:30-7:30 p.m. with a time for sharing at 7 p.m. at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Becker for Gerald “Gary” E. Johnson of Sauk Centre, age 55, who passed away at the St. Cloud Hospital on Monday.
    Gary was born Sept. 3, 1963 to Gerald and Carol (Markley) Johnson in Elk River. He grew up in the Becker area and graduated from Becker High School. After his father passed, he moved in with his mother and was a caring and wonderful caretaker until she passed in 2017.
    Gary enjoyed reading, fishing, playing horseshoes and working with his hands. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Gary was laid-back, had a great sense of humor and because of his fun-loving nature he was dearly loved by his nieces and nephews.
    Gary is survived by his brothers and sisters, Kimberly (Clinton) Peterson of Big Lake, Cheryl (Harvey) Schwarzkopf of Clear Lake, Carlene (Kenneth) Stenberg of Monticello, Michael (Carmen Adams) Johnson of Burnsville, Daniel Johnson of Foley, Candace (William) Sherk of Milaca, Kari (Jim Bialucha) Johnson of Sauk Centre and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.

  Age 76, a 14-year resident of rural Spooner, Wisconsin, went to be with her Savior on Thurs, Sept. 6. Pat bravely battled cancer for three years, and we are thankful she now has her eternally pain-free body in Heaven!
    Patricia Sue Krebs was born on August 14, 1942, in Fort Wayne, IN, to parents Otis and Helen (Roth) Krebs. After graduating from South Side High School in Fort Wayne, Patty worked for Lincoln Life before moving to St. Paul, where she met her husband Len of 52 years. Patricia worked for a CPA for a time and also for an attorney, along with a successful 27-year sales career as an Area Organizer with Princess House.
    Pat was a patriot who loved her country. She enjoyed traveling, crocheting, and was an avid sports fan. True to her Hoosier roots, you could find her glued to the TV every year during March Madness (as well as the Olympics when they were on). Pat also bowled competitively for many years at Maplewood Bowl, but above all she found joy cheering on her sons & grandsons as they competed in hockey & baseball.
    Patricia will be greatly missed by her husband Leonard; sons Christopher Nalty of Big Lake and Jon (Kim) Nalty of Blaine, MN; daughter-in-law Geri Nalty of Big Lake; stepchildren Laura Thimijan and Ken Nalty; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; siblings Donna (Jerry) Toms, Betti (Denny) Bradtmiller, William (Angie) Krebs, and Lois (Mike) Berry, all of Fort Wayne, Indiana.
    A special thank you for the care and support from Pat’s doctors, nurses, and hospice team.

Bill attended Big Lake High School and worked at Century Tool in Rogers. He was a skilled cabinet maker who loved the water, snowmobiling, cooking, and spending time with friends. Lois "Loey " Pearson

  age 93, of Big Lake. Passed away on Sept. 16, 2018 at her home.

Preceded  in death by her beloved husband Jack Pearson, daughter Jan Pearson, brothers John and Don Moorhead, parents Florence and John G Moorhead and her lifelong childhood friend Mitzi Koch.

Loey  is survived by her daughters;  Jill Castloo (David), Judy Syring (Jeff) , Joan Blank ( Kevin), Joy Nadeau (Owen), sons; Steve Pearson (Lucy) and Paul Pearson,  grandchildren; Travis, Jake, Heather, Rainer, Christopher, Clay (Heather), Chelsie (Brett), Claire (Tony), Becky (Brent), Jared (Stacy), Kyle (Candace) and great grandchildren Londyn, Henry, Lexi, Tess, Emma, Noah, Cameron, Miya, Mackenzie, Haydn and Shane.  She also has many cherished nieces and a nephew.

Loey was born in Minneapolis,  9/30/1924. She graduated from Washburn High School in 1942 and then attended the University of Minnesota with a focus on Home Economics.  Her dreams came true when she married her longtime childhood crush, Jack Pearson , on June 10th, 1950.

Loey devoted her adult life to the loving care of her husband and seven children. Loey spent weekends and summers in Big Lake,  where she moved permanently after raising her family in Robbinsdale from 1954-1988. She was active in her Catholic faith and church activities all of her life.  She loved gardening, yard work, all outdoor activities and animals of all kinds – especially her Springer Spaniels. 

Loey was famous for her Morning Glory embroidered dish towels, cherished candy wreaths, delicious  dill pickles and the ultimate chocolate chip cookie.  She shared or donated everything she ever made and she was known for her weekly donations to the church food shelf.

She was a delight to all that were blessed to know her.  Her loving heart, grace, youthful spirit and gentle ways will be tremendously missed by her family and friends.  We love you to the moon and back, Mom. You will be forever in our hearts and prayers.

There will be a Visitation for Loey on Thurs., Sept. 20  from 6-8PM  at Peterson-Grimsmo Funeral Chapel in Monticello. Then on Fri., Sept. 21, there will be a 1 hour visitation before a  Mass at 10 AM at Mary of the Visitation Catholic Church in Big Lake, MN.

Memorials are preferred to St Cloud CentraCare Hospice.  Many special thanks to all the Hospice staff who helped and supported Loey and her family on her journey.

Karen Louise Hurlbert

     age 75, of Plymouth, formerly of Big Lake and St. Louis Park. Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Buzz and Jean Anthony and by her sister, Maraline Keeling.
 She is survived by her “Sweetie” of 32 years, Ronald Holbach, daughters Susan Nagorski (Jeff),  Jean Hurlbert (Tony Abelson) and Barbara Nelson (Joel), grandchildren Tony Nagorski (Jen), Megan Nagorski (fiancé Bobby), Clay and Grace Nelson, Great Grandchild, Willow Mae, a niece, Tracy Keeling,  a nephew, Charlie Keeling and many loving friends and neighbors.                                                 Karen was born in Minneapolis in 1942 and raised in St. Louis Park where she attended St. Louis Park High School, graduating in 1960.  She was a member and leader of the Girl Scouts of America. As a child and young woman, she enjoyed figure skating, as had her mother, Jean.  Karen was a life-long member of St. George’s Episcopal Church in St. Louis Park where she served on the vestry and as a lay reader.  
    Her family would like to express thanks to the staff of Park Nicollet Frauenshuh Cancer Center and especially her Infusion Care Team in Maple Grove and also to the Park Nicollet Hospice Care Team.

Duane Hollenbeck

Duane Hollenbeck

Longtime businessman and resident of Big Lake passed away Fri., Sept. 21,at the VA in St. Cloud.  Duane had been in their care for the past two years.
     Duane was born in Monticello, Feb. 22,1936 to Ralph and Verna Hollenbeck. He completed school in 1954 and joined the Army the same year. After completing his training at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, he was stationed in Alaska for the duration of his service.
    After his service, he went to Dunwoody Institute where he studied automobile mechanics. He worked in Buffalo at a dealership for a short time before starting his own business in Big Lake where he stayed for almost 30 years, adding a car wash, (the second one in MN) snowmobiles,
boats and motors.
    He married Gloria Thompson in 1963 and they had two children, Julie and Bret. The whole family worked at the store but also enjoyed many family trips and time at their cabin.             Duane enjoyed snowmobiling, motorcycle riding, boating, water skiing, fishing, scuba diving and horseback riding.
    As his health declined, he still loved talking to people and always had a joke or two to tell. He spent as much time as he could with his family, especially his grandchildren and built them a playhouse and a fort.
    Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Verna and an infant sister, Barbara. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends and leaves behind, his wife, of 55 years, Gloria; his daughter, Julie (Marty Oliver); his son, Bret and wife Stacy (Eckholm); seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren
plus many other relatives and friends. There will be a celebration of his life this coming Sunday, Sept. 30 at the VFW in Monticello from 2-5 p.m. There will be a light lunch and a military salute to Duane at 3 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

Lyle McConnell

Lyle Archie McConnell was born December 18, 1930, to Archie and Meta (Glock) McConnell at home in Blakeley Township, Scott County, MN. Lyle grew up on the family farm where he was born. He graduated from Belle Plain High School.  

Lyle was a Machinist Mate in the Navy for four years 1951-1954, sailing on the USS Oglethorpe.

On September 14th, 1957 Lyle was married to Elveramae Rolf in Minneapolis, MN. 

Lyle was employed by NSP  (now Xcel Energy) from 1961 until his retirement December 1995 as a Lead Machinist.He consistently found an opportunity to talk about his children.  In his retirement years, Lyle talked about his cars and your cars.  He always enjoyed a good meal, his favorite being pan fish.

Lyle is survived by his lovely wife of 61 years, Elveramae of Big Lake; Children Vicki Mitchell of Elk River; Dan (Laurie) McConnell of Becker; Douglas (Suzanne) McConnell of Grantsburg, WI; Cindi McConnell (Dave Fischer) of Elk River; Jeff (Dena) McConnell of Stacy; Connie McConnell of Elk River;  Amy (Joe) Krambeer of Zimmerman; Tracy (Curtis) Kraul of Wellington, FL; son in law Barry McLouth of Big Lake; 25 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Daughter Wendy McLouth, Son in law Scott Mitchell, sisters, LaVerne Malz, Marian Stoppelmann, infant sister Irene, brothers Ervin, Everett, Arnold,  and Oliver, stepfather Oscar Erdman, stepbrother Deloss Erdman,

Funeral Service will be Friday, September 28, 2018 at 11AM, with a visitation starting at 10AM, at Central Lutheran Church; 1103 School St NW, Elk River.  Burial will be in Big Lake Cemetery.

Lory Allan Diedrich

age 63, passed suddenly on Wednesday, September 12.  Al was born on June 22, 1955 to Elden and Clarice (Clar Karger) Diedrich in Parker’s Prairie, MN. He was the youngest of three boys. He attended grade school at Central Lutheran in St. Paul. Later, he graduated from Irondale High School in 1973. He went on to attend the U of M and the Academy of Accounting.  
    Al began his career with Prudential Insurance in 1976 at Minneapolis home office in Accounting and ending 36 years later. He was also involved with Prudential’s Human Resource teaching program within the facility.
    He enjoyed playing softball and bowling with some of his co-workers in his earlier years. His favorite times were celebrations at Prudential when he could laugh and joke with others. “Mr. Social Butterfly”.
    Al had two previous marriages and a daughter with each prior to marrying Peg (Thomas) in May 1989. Al’s daughters, Tabitha and Sarah together with Peg’s son, Phillip, then added daughter, Jennifer, to complete their blended family.
    Survivors include: wife, Margaret (Peg), daughters; Tabitha Adams, Sarah (Stephen) Beebe, Jennifer (Matthew) Hansen and son, Phillip (Erin) Diedrich, brothers; Stan and Ken (Gretchen) Diedrich, grandchildren; Isaiah Adams, Josephine Beebe, Cecilia Beebe and Ash Hansen, as well as many wonderful aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
    Al was preceded in death by his parents, Elden and Clar Diedrich.
    Al will always be remembered as a loving and giving Christian man with a quick smile and a wicked sense of humor. He had a soft spot for children and loved to watch them learn and grow especially in the church. His laughter and hugs will be missed by many.
    The potluck Celebration of Life will be held at Hope Lutheran Church, in Orrock, Saturday, October 20th at 4pm. Casual attire is requested.

Marcia "Marci" Pullar

        age (66) of  Big Lake, passed away on September 28 at 6 AM at U of M Hospital.
Marci was born October 29, 1951 at St. Barnabas Hospital, Mpls to John and Doris Kipp. She graduated from Marshall High School in 1969 and was most recently employed as Resident Manager of Keller Lake Commons in Big Lake.
    She was very active at Living Waters Church, where she and her husband served for many years.  Marci was preceded in death by her father John Kipp and mother Doris Kipp.
She is survived by husband, Bob Pullar; Daughter, Renae & (Brian) Calva; son, John & (Ashley) Pullar; 6 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and brother, Bernie Nielsen. Donald B. Kujawa

     age 86, of Big Lake, who passed away on Tues., Oct. 9, at the St. Cloud V.A. Medical Center.
Donald was born Aug. 5, 1932 to Ben and Mary (Bolagek) Kujawa in Morrill Township, Minnesota; the youngest of ten children.
He was united in marriage to Marie Alice “Mickey” Johnson on December 27, 1953. They were married for 54 years. Donald honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1954-1956 during the Korean War.He worked for the Twin City Army Ammunition Plant for many years and eventually retired from SIFCO after 25 years of service working in the manufacturing of jet engine parts.
    Donald was a loving father, grandpa and great-grandpa, who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He always made sure that his family was well taken care of.
He was an avid woodworker who enjoyed making wishing wells and bird houses. Don also enjoyed going fishing, hunting and snowmobiling. Don and his wife also enjoyed traveling together especially to the east coast, Canada and other parts of the US.
    Survived by his children, Donald M. (Sue), of Willmar, Laird (Julie), of Princeton and Shawn (Joanne), of Spicer; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Donald is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mickey; son, Robbin; grandson, Donald M. Kujawa, Jr.; and nine brothers and sisters.
    Visitation will be held from 4 - 7 p.m. Sun., Oct. 14. Funeral Services will be held on Mon., Oct. 15, 11:30 a.m. at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud, with visitation one hour prior.
    Pastor H. Paul McCullough will officiate. Burial of the urn will be at Lone Pine Cemetery in Morrill. The Waite Park American Legion Silver Star Post #428 will provide military honors following the service.
    A special thank you to the staff of the St. Cloud V.A. Medical Center, especially the staff of Building 50-2 for their loving and compassionate care of Donald.  A special thank you also to Dan and Linda Masica for their dedicated presence in Donald’s life.

     age 43, of Big Lake.  Passed away unexpectedly on October 13. He truly loved his family and his faith in God was strong. Jeremy graduated from Big Lake High School in 1993. Mark Wayne Peterson

   age 65, Big Lake,  passed away in the arms of his family on Wednesday, October 10. True Love of Denise Rogers. Best Daddy to Jennifer Peterson (Lance Sanderson) and Kelly Stone (Andrew). Stepdad to Shane (Elizabeth Bartlett), Jordan (Becca Daltroff) and Lucas (Sarah) Rogers. Grandpa to Lyla, Noah and Ella Stone; Ava Wright; and Kyla, Reevyn and Landen Rogers. Nina's boy and Laurie's big brother. He's off to see his Pops and have a beer or 2, pain free. We were all so very fortunate to have him in our lives and will miss him desperately. Shirley Alberta Rae Jones

   age 91 of Big Lake passed away peacefully at her home October 19.  Preceded in death by husband, Alvin, of 67 years.  Survived by all 8 of her children, Edward (Rosanne), Albert (Betty), John, Bob (Theresa), Terri (John), Philip, Martin (Remalynn) and Anne; 20 grand children and 36 great grand children.  Shirley was a devoted wife and mother.  She loved nothing more than to spend time with her loving family.      

     She had a kind spirit and a great sense of humor, contagious laugh and was very thoughtful to everyone.  She was a generous soul and always ready to help family and friends in need.  She had a great devotion to the Lord, attended Mass regularly and prayed the Rosary daily.  We will miss her bright blue eyes, sweet smile and gentle ways.  Although we greatly mourn the loss of our Mother we take comfort believing she is now with her lifelong sweetheart in the presence of our Lord and Savior.  Until we meet again Mom, we love you forever!  Private service to be held Sat., Oct. 27, at Mary of the Visitation Catholic Church, 440 Lake St, Big Lake, MN  55309
