Darlene Wilson

    July 23, 1951 – December 21, 2018. Private services will be held for Darlene C. Wilson, age 67, of Big Lake who passed away suddenly on Friday December 21, 2018 at her home.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Big Lake.

Darla was born July 23, 1951 in Rogers to Wallace and Delores (Bebeau) Hagel. She married James S. Wilson on August 17, 1985 in Rogers. Darla was a beautician for 42 years. She was a wonderful mother who loved her children and her family and who loved gardening, flowers, music, and Our Lord. We will miss her kindness, her beautiful smile, and her laugh.

Survivors include her husband James of Big Lake; children Jesse (Renee) Hauan of Big Lake; Jill (Derek) Vraa of Colorado Springs, Co; Mike (Angie) Wilson of Elk River; grandchildren, Jack, Ryan, Julia, Brady, Max, Lilly, and Lauren, sisters and brother Carol Hackenmueller, Audrey (Ron) Daglmann, Paul (LeeAnn) Hagel, sister in law, Darlene Hagel, brother in law Andy Oberg.

She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters, LaVerne Zachman, Rosie Miller, Kathy Oberg, and brother Doug Hagel.

 Age 19, of Big Lake, passed away December 29, 2018.  He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Bernie Johnson; sibling, Baby Johnson.  Noah is survived by his parents, Brian & Melissa; sister & best friend, Malia; grandparents, Dennis & Mari Arfsten and Ron Johnson (Linda Jokela); aunt, Jen (Peter) Braun; uncles, Justin (Rheanna) Arfsten and Keola (Fay) Johnson; cousins, Melanie and Dominick Braun, Maiya Walker, and Evelyn, Matthew, & David Arfsten; other extended family and many friends.  

  Noah Johnson was one of a kind; fun yet serious, silly and creative yet a deep thinker, this combination made Noah a joy to be around. Not only did he embrace his own unique personality, but he also appreciated and cared about the differences in others.  Noah was a thinker; one moment he would share a funny meme or pun and in the next moment he was able to expose a deep intellectual insight. Those who came to know Noah through school, church, missions, social activities, or work, knew him to be caring and always smiling. Noah had a love for many things including singing, computers, anime, puns, memes, running, sci-fi, and long walks. Noah had a love and devotion to Christ and shared it with those around him.   Age 55, of Big Lake.  Passed away on Jan 1, 2019.  He is preceded in death by his grandparents, father, Irvin; uncles, Alex Belanger, Marshall Blanchet, Cecil Smith, Clifford “Wild Thing” Smith and Chuck Gerber; aunts, Delma Belanger and Janet Meagher.  Todd worked all his adult life as a laborer at many different companies.  He was a hard worker valued by all of his employers.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and tinkering with all things mechanical.  Todd is survived by his mother, Judy; step-mother, Lori Smith; loving wife of 24+ years, Rebecca; children, Ashley Smith (Nate Johnson) and Dylan Smith (Samantha Kensinger); grandchildren, Braydon and Austin; sisters, Tracie Knudtson and Christine (Ron) Wolske; brother; Shawn (Holly) Bray;  brother-in-law,; Larry (Jean) Kiphuth, uncles; Leonard (Joanne) Smith, Richard Smith and Charley (Kathy) Smith; aunt Sandy Blanchet; many nieces & nephews, cousins, other family and friends.  Todd was a very giving and caring man.  He cherished his family.  His grandchildren meant the world to him.  Funeral service at 2PM on Fri, Jan 18, 2019 at Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel, 250 E Broadway, Monticello, with visitation starting at Noon.  Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel  763-295-2918  www.peterson-grimsmochapel.com

Age 71 of Big Lake, passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at her home.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ernie; infant sister, Marlene; infant brother, Donald; grandson, Justen Paumen; stepdaughter, Gayle Pringle.  Elaine is survived by sons, Richard (Tracy) Rowland, Ronald Rowland, Roger (Terri) Hartwig; daughters, Wanda (Doug) Paumen, Marcia Hartwig (Michael Schmidt), Kristi Hartwig. She is also survived by many grand and great grandchildren.  Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11am on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Mary of the Visitation Catholic Church – Becker Campus; 12100 Sherburne Avenue in Becker.  Burial was at Riverside Cemetery in Monticello.

 Age 57 of Big Lake, passed away peacefully on Thurs., Jan. 10,  surrounded by her loving family.
  Preceded in death by her father William Troy, mother Elizabeth Wills Troy, and brother-in-law Norm Huston.  
  Jackie was a very social person who loved life and brought great joy to all those she was around.  She was a loving and very active wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, grandmother, and friend.  
  Jackie was born on April 6, 1961, in Mpls. and was an avid sports fan who loved following the Minnesota Vikings, Twins, Wild, and all the University of Minnesota sports teams.  
 Besides attending and watching sporting events, she also enjoyed cooking, bowling, volleyball, softball, bingo, casinos, concerts, fishing, camping, and being with family and friends.  She loved her daughter and grandchildren very much and along with her husband, spent many memorables times/outgins with them.
  Jackie enjoyed working a number of years at Jax Café in Northeast Mpls. during her younger days and recently retired after working 33 plus years for Hennepin County Human Services and Public Health Dept.  
  A huge thank you goes to all the staff at the St. Marys and Mayo Clinic Hospital and hospice team for all their care and support.  They were very respectful, compassionate and wonderful to our family and made Jackie comfortable until the very end of her life.  
  Jackie is survived by her husband Charles Nagel, sisters:  Jeanne Huston,  Joyce Ward (John), Jill Procter (Tim), daughter Sarah Gregerson (Jesse Hilton), Mark Gregerson (Sarah’s father), step-daughter; Charlotte Brenteson (Dan),  Debriana Longley (Dustin), grandchildren; Skye Holtan, Devereaux Longley, Danny and Frankie Brenteson, Nelilah Chanthaphonh, and many other relatives.  
  A celebration of her life will be held at 12 pm, Sat., January 26, at Peterson-Grimsmo Funeral Chapel, 250 E. Broadway  in Monticello, with visitation beginning at 11 a.m.  
  In Jackie’s honor, we encourage you to wear your favorite Viking, Wild, Twins, or U of M jersey or attire.

Arlen Enger

    age 90 of Big Lake, passed away at North Memorial Hospital on January 16, 2019, surrounded by her loving family.
    Arlene was born on August 15, 1928 to Ludwig and Laurenze Larson at the family home in Orrock. She lived most of her life in Big Lake until the last 8 years when she resided at Diamond Crest Senior living in Rogers. She married Allen Enger on August 22, 1953 and together they raised a family of four children and were blessed with six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.             Together with her family, she helped run a farm and Enger’s Campground on the shores of Big Eagle Lake for 18 years. Besides working a farm and running a family resort, she never turned down a request for help from her church or community. She mastered every craft she tried, made the best apple pie in the county, fried Sunfish to crispy perfection, and she could magically diaper a baby with one hand. Her Christmas morning popovers were an annual delight to her family!
    Arlene is preceded in death by her husband, Allen of 53 years; children, Terry (Debbie), Laurie Wokson (Larry), Mel (Debbi) and Wayne; grandchildren, Josh (Katie), Jake, Jenna (Justin) Wild, Ben (Taylor), Travis and Jereme DuPaul; and 6 great grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. with visitation one hour prior, Sat., Feb. 2, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 7401 County Road 101, Maple Grove. Memorials preferred to Orrock Cemetery or Hope Lutheran Church in Big Lake.

     June 7, 1958 – January 17, 2019
 age 60, of Birchwood, WI and formerly of North Branch, passed away peacefully at home  Thurs., Jan. 17,  surrounded by her family.
    A visitation will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in North Branch from 3-8pm, Tues., Jan. 22 with a memorial service at 6pm,  Pastor Steve Weihsmann will officiate.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Big Lake.
    Julie was born in Cambridge,  June 7, 1958 to Howard and Jeanette (Bjorklund) Kurtz.  She grew up in Harris, graduated from North Branch High School in 1976 and married Philip Perrault on Dec. 3, 1977.  They lived together in Harris for six years and then moved to North Branch where they lived for 16 years.  Julie was employed with the North Branch School District where she worked as a paraprofessional and a library assistant.  She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in North Branch where she taught Sunday School and Confirmation.  
    In 2003, Phil and Julie pursued their dream to own and operate a resort. They purchased Red Cedar Springs Resort in Birchwood, WI and during those 15 years, made many great friends and memories. In 2018, they moved to Monticello to be closer to family. Julie loved gardening, taking pictures, going for walks, being on the lake and enjoying a coffee, any time of the day. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren.
    Julie is survived by her husband, Philip; children, Jennifer (Brian) Jagusch of Big Lake, Gregory (Anne) Perrault of Clarksville, TN and Brian (Kelly) Perrault of Chaska; grandchildren, Isaac, Elsie, Edith, Ada, Juliet, Beverly, Mabel and two more on the way; Mother; Jeanette Kurtz of Harris; sisters; Janice (Steven) Balfanz of North Branch, Jerilyn (Steve) Shodahl of North Branch, Jalayne Larson of Bertha, Jenae Kvale (Jeff) of North Branch and Joy Heilmer of Harris; in-laws, Ron (Karen) Perrault of North Branch, Steven (Diane) Perrault of North Branch, Roger (Cheri) Perrault of North Branch, Teresa Perrault of Burnsville, Gerald (Colleen) Perrault of North Branch and Mark Perrault of Vadnais Heights; and many nieces and nephews.
    She is preceded in death by her father; mother and father-in-law, Adrian and Shirley Perrault and brother-in-law, Vern Heilmer.
        Memorials will be given by the family to brain cancer research in Julie’s honor.

    age 74, Big Lake, passed away  Thursday, Jan. 17 at the Foley Nursing Home, after a long battle with breast cancer, colon cancer, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and pancreatic cancer. A gathering of friends and family will be from 1-4 p, Sun., Feb. 10, with a time of sharing at 3 pm at the Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Big Lake .     
    Marlene was born in Fairmont, Sept. 28, 1944 to Walter and Gladys (Anderson) Swanson.  She attended Sherburn High School, graduating in 1962. Marlene married Gene E. Mielke on July 16, 1966 in Kiester. They have lived in Mpls., New Ulm, Mounds View, Jackson, Crosslake, Baxter and Big Lake as of late.  
    Marlene held various clerical positions with companies such as the State Board of hairdressers, Minnesota DNR, Flandrau State Park and a county worker with the Jackson County Auditor/Treasurer Office until retiring in 2006.
    Marlene was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Dunnell, she volunteered with the American Cancer Society and the Jackson County Social Services.  Marlene loved flowers, traveling, watching television especially the news, spending time with her grandchildren and spending time with the “Golden Girls (class of 1962 friends).  
    Marlene is survived by her children, Michael (Aadra) of Big Lake and Matthew (Katie) of Ironton; grandchildren, Kyro, Taavan, Mia, Ty, Avari, and Emmy; brother, Don (Marilyn) Swanson of Sherburn and in-laws, Sandra Mielke of Ely; Janet & Larry Dammann of Rosemount.
    She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gene Mielke (Jan. 5, 2011); infant brother, Eugene; her mother and father-in-law, Vincent & Catherine Mielke, and brother-in-law, Sherman.

Kenneth Christensen

  age 84, of Maple Lake, formerly of Minneapolis, died peacefully on Friday, February 1, 2019 at Lakeside Oasis Hospice of Lake Ridge in Buffalo. Visitation will be 9:30-11 a.m. Friday at Bethany Bible Church in Big Lake. Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8,  at the church with Pastor Mark Snider officiating. A luncheon will follow the service. Burial will take place at Maple Lake Community Cemetery.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Kenneth Raymond Christensen was born July 21, 1934 at General Hospital in Minneapolis to Jens and Anna (Brunberg) Christensen. He grew up and lived the first 21 years of life in Minneapolis. Ken attended Edison High School and Vocational High School. He served his country with the Army National Guard during the Korean War, honorably discharged in 1957 as a Sargent. On July 31, 1955, Ken was united in marraige to Janice Mae Erickson at First Lutheran Church in Columbia Heights. They lived in Columbia Heights, Fargo, ND, Brooklyn Center, Champlin and in 1999, they moved to Maple Lake. Ken worked as a salesman for Grinnell Corporation for 42 years, retiring in July of 1999. In retirement, Ken worked at Orluck Industries and volunteered with the Wright County Water Patrol. Ken enjoyed hunting, fishing and serving others. He valued his time with family and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He had a strong faith in Jesus and instilled a Godly Heritage in his children and grandchildren.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            He is survived by his children Cheryl (Mark) Orluck of Buffalo, Alan Christensen of Zimmerman, Karen (Bob) Rice of Buffalo and Andy (Jen) Christensen of Silver Creek; grandchildren Peter, Beth, Eric, Amy, Andrew, Nathan, Daniel, Cory, Luke, Carson, Jackson and Marcus; great grandchildren Paige, Jamie, Bella, Elijah, Noah, Liam, Juliette, Lorelei, Grady and Owen; brother Vern Christensen of Crystal; and sister Jane Alfred Miller of Clermont, FL. Ken is preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers Donald and Robert Christensen; and sisters Gloria Utes and Delores Jacobson.

   The casket bearers will be his grandsons. Arrangements are entrusted with Dingmann Funeral Care Burial & Cremation Services of Maple Lake.

Patrick Penner

  age 67, returned to his heavenly home peacefully on Thursday, January 31st, 2019 after a valiant battle with liver disease. Preceded in death by his parents. His devotion to his family and friends and firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace. Patrick was born to the late Wallace and Mary Penner, a sheet metal worker and homemaker in Mpls. July 4th 1951. Patrick was an educator and tinker at heart. He loved taking things apart, rebuilding, and fixing them and in the process explaining every detail to whomever was there to listen. He owned and operated his own HVAC business, Pool Mechanical, for over 30 years. He will be dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his Creator, whom he dearly loved and preached of.Patrick was blessed with large loving family. Survived by daughters, Charity (Chris) LaGow and Jessica Penner; son, Wade Penner; grandchildren, Wyatt, Annika, Colton, Easton and Hazel LaGow, Azhuh and Zeland Ponte; sister, Kathy (Charlie) Livingston; brothers, Mike (Janet) Penner, and Tim (Rita) Penner; many other relatives as well and friends. Betty Jean Piccolo

        76 of Becker, passed lovingly surrounded by family on Feb. 11 at North Memorial Hospital.  
    Betty Jean was born May 1, 1942 in Thief River Falls to parents Edmund and Doris Lajambe.  Betty graduated from Oklee High School and attended Bemidji State University where she received her degree in Education.  Betty was teaching in Kwajalein when she met her husband Joseph Piccolo.  They were married on March 17, 1966 at the Little Chapel of the West in Las Vegas.  They became long time residence of Becker,  where they raised their two sons Wade and Eddie.  Betty Jean taught and coached at Elk River High School for 33 years.  
       Betty is survived by her two sons Wade (Keisha) Piccolo of St. Cloud and Eddie Piccolo of Monticello.  Betty was preceded in death by her father, Edmund Lajambe, brother, Bobby Lajambe, and husband, Joseph Piccolo. Betty Jean loved sports, whether watching or participating.  She loved games and she loved to travel.  Most importantly Betty Jean loved her family and looked forward each year to the family reunion.  Betty will be greatly missed by her family and friends.  
    Celebration of Life to be held on Saturday March 2 at Faith Lutheran Church in Becker.  Visitation from 10-11 am and Service to be held at 11am.

Willard Hanson

      Zimmerman,  died peacefully Wed. Feb. 13, 2019 at his home on the family farm.  He was 74 years old.  He was born on July 12, 1944, in Elk River to Enock and Bertha (Pelg) Hanson.  Bill grew up farming and helping his dad raise cattle.  He graduated from Big Lake High School in 1963. He enlisted in the Army in 1965 and served as a Reservist.  After serving his term, he took over farming the family homestead and worked a variety of jobs.  He married Evelyn Sarsgard in 1969 and together they had two children.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      

   Bill enjoyed the outdoors and taking care of his cows.  His passion for farming and sharing his knowledge of agriculture was his daily devotion.  Snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, and tinkering with equipment were among his other passions.  Bill is most known for his contagious smile, larger than life sense of humor and always having a joke or 3 ready to share with anyone.  Willard was preceded in death by both his parents.  He is survived by longtime companion Patricia Steinke of St. Francis; his son James (Cally) Hanson of Mora; daughter Jennifer Kwiatkowski of Isanti; sister Diane (Milton) Perman; brothers Roger Hanson and Randy (Kathy) Hanson; 3 Grandchildren; and many Nieces and Nephews. 

   In keeping with Bill’s wishes no service will be held.  Instead, a celebration of life party will be scheduled at a later date to take place out on the family farm.

A special thanks to Fairview Hospice for all the amazing support and care given to Willard and his family during his final days at home, and to the University of Minnesota for their wonderful care as well.  A heartfelt thanks goes out to all of the family and friends who came to visit and fill Bill’s home with laughter and stories.  All of your help and support is greatly appreciated.

Richard Bergsten

      age 77 of Monticello, passed away Feb. 14, due to Mesothelioma. Richard was born on August 20, 1941 to Erland and Hazelle Bergsten. He grew up in Battle Lake. In 1967 he married Linda “The best thing that ever happened in my life.” They built a house and moved to Monticello with their two children in 1973.
    He became a master electrician and started his own electrical contracting business and kept a hobby farm. In retirement he went to his love of farming and ran a successful bailing business. Richard is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Linda; children, Jeff (Tammy) Bergsten and Missy (Daryl) Gilles; grandchildren, Kyle, Kayla, Emily, Amanda and Jacob; sister, Sharon (Glenn) Arfstrom; and nieces and nephews. He was loved and respected by many other relatives, friends and neighbors.
    Visitation from 5-7 p.m.  Thurs., Feb. 28 at Hope Evangelical Free Church, 513 West 4th St, Monticello. Celebration of Life, Fri., March 1 at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior at the church.

     age 92, of Big Lake, passed away Feb. 12. She is preceded in death by her husband, Stasko; parents, Johan and Reinhilda; sister, Hilda; sons, Stefan and Paul. She is survived by her children, Peter, Maria (John) Morrow, Nina (David) Pounds, Anna (Bob) Exner, Michael (Stephanie), Linda (Rob) Slattery; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Anna Schallner; and many other reltaives and friends.
  Maria will be remembered as the ultimate caregiver, whether it came to her husband, children, grandchildren, garden, or animals. Funeral service was held Mon., Feb. 18 at  at Washburn-McReavy.

Lois Krebs

   age 83 of Big Lake, was welcomed home on Feb 20, 2019 with loving arms by her first love Jesus; her loving husband of 53 years, Donald; her first born, Todd; and her parents. She is not suffering anymore. She is free! She will be deeply missed but we know someday we will all be together again for those who believe in Jesus Christ as their personal savior. Survived by loving daughters, Amy (John) and Debbie; grandchildren, Brittni, Amanda, Ashley, ElsaMay, Rainy, Lacy and John; great grandchildren, Savannah and Rocco; great great grandson, Maliki; our dear Gloria, Elizabeth and Sarah, sisters in law, Joanne, Lib and Marilyn; nieces and nephews; and other friends. Visitation from 5-7PM on Tues, Feb 26 at Dares Funeral Home, 805 Main St, Elk River. Funeral service 11AM Wed, Feb 27 with visitation one hour prior at Gateway Church, 13913 185th Ave NW, Elk River. Nikki Abfalter

    50 of Big Lake died tragically in a fire on February 23, 2019. She joined the Minnesota Army National Guard, attaining the rank of Specialist 4 (Sp4).  Nikki worked as the night manager at Beaudry Express in Elk River for many years and that is where she met the love of her life, Jim. She is survived by her loving husband of 23 years James; children MacKenzie and Logan. Also survived by her mother Joan (Paul) Beech-Shephard, brothers David (Mary) Hemgren, and Chad (Kathy) Hemgren; biological mother Aleeta (Gust) Nelson, sister Michelle (Pat) Grecinger and half brother Gunder (Linda) Nelson and many, many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by Charles & Joan Hemgren, Bob Beech; brother Scott Hemgren, half-brother Chip Nelson and Great Nephew Gryffin Duthler. Memorial service 11 AM Saturday March 2, 2019 at Refuge Church 25620 4th St. W. Zimmerman. Friends may gather to extend condolences from 4 – 8 PM Friday March 1, 2019 at Refuge Church and 1 hour prior to service at the church on Saturday. Interment Ft.
