Cole M. Jensen

Jensen, Cole Montana age 16 of Big Lake passed away Sunday, December 18, 2016.  He was preceded in death by his mother Tawnja and grandmother Kay Nicolai.  Cole is survived by his father James of Big Lake; brothers Cameron and Dalton of Monticello; grandparents Gerald and Alice (Ollie) Jensen and Don Nicolai all of Monticello; uncle Kevin (Melanie) Jensen of Bloomington; aunt Jody (Rob) Birkholm of Wrenshall, MN.  Cole is also survived by his cat Boots.  Cole loved video games, the outdoors, and “had the biggest heart in the world”.

Memorial service will be on Friday, December 30, 2016 at 6PM with a visitation starting at 4PM at the Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel; 250 East Broadway in Monticello.

Memorial services will be at 11:30 A.M. on Monday, January 16, 2017 at the Daniel Funeral Home Chapel in Clearwater, MN for Jeffery John Hoglund, age 58 who died on Friday, January 6, 2017 at his home.  Kari Kounkel will officiate.  Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. on Monday at the funeral home. 
 
Jeffery was born on December 4, 1958 in St. Paul, MN the son of Curtis J. and Anna Mae (Hickman) Hoglund.  He grew up in Monticello and graduated from Monticello High School in 1977.   He then started up his own design and graphics business in Monticello which he ran until his passing.    His son Jasen joined the business in 2000. 
 
He loved spending his time fishing, car shows, going to the drag races, and motorcycle riding.  He loved the color yellow which was the color of his El Camino, his boat and his motorcycle.  He was deeply loved by his family and many friends.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents Curtis and Anna Mae Hoglund.
 
 
He is survived by his wife Paphawarin (Joy) Hoglund of Monticello;  one son, Jasen of Monticello; one daughter Kristine Hoglund of Blaine, MN; one grandson, Keegan Hoglund; his former wife, Cynthia Hoglund of Crystal, MN; his brothers and sisters, Tami (David) Braun of Lakeville, MN, Kevin of Centerville, MN, Charlene (Barry) Hanson of Monticello, MN, Roger (Julie) of Clearwater, MN; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services celebrating the life of Elaine J. Abendroth, 92 years young, of Clearwater will be held at 12 Noon on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Faith Lutheran Church in Silver Creek (12449 Clementa Ave NW, Monticello).  Elaine passed away peacefully with family by her side on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at St. Benedict’s Senior Center in St. Cloud. Pastor Jim Tetlie will officiate.  Burial will be in Acacia Cemetery, Clearwater.

 

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12 Noon on Thursday at the church.  Arrangements are with Daniel Funeral Home, Clearwater.

 

Elaine was born on May 24, 1924 in Princeton, Minnesota to the late Elmer and Thea (Madsen) Johnson.  She grew up in Santiago where they lived until moving to St. Cloud for her senior year of high school where she graduated from Tech High School in 1942.  Elaine married Francis Abendroth and they resided in Clearwater, raising their two daughters, farming and selling Pioneer Seed Corn.   Following Francis’s passing, Elaine continued to farm and sell Pioneer Seed Corn.  She helped start the Charitable Gambling with the Clearwater Lions where she was a charter member and continued doing the bookwork until her retirement at the age of 82.  Elaine was a member of Faith Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School, Bible School and played piano and organ.  She started a Ladies Aid Group in the neighborhood, was a Girl Scout and 4H Club leader.  Elaine was very involved with her family and helping where she could.

 

She will be remembered for her kind words, caring ways, impeccable style and love of family.

 

Elaine is survived by her daughters, Judy Jarmuzek of Clearwater, Lynne Crandall of Monticello; three grandchildren, Kim (Dave) Frisell of Hibbing, Kelly Jarmuzek (Chris Benskin) of Mandan, ND, Ty (Celia) Crandall of Clearwater; and four great grandchildren, Quinn, Abby and Jenna Frisell and Briar Crandall.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis in 1982; granddaughter, Karen Jarmuzek in 1989; sons- in- law, Mike Jarmuzek and Timm Crandall both in 2015; one sister; and one brother.

 

A special thank you to St. Benedict’s Center, St. Croix Hospice and all those who sent cards, called and visited Mom at St. Ben’s.

John Clinton "Jack" Meltzer

John Clinton “Jack” Meltzer, age 80 of Big Lake, passed away at Lake Ridge Care Center of Buffalo on January 8, 2017.  Visitation will be Saturday, January 14, 2017, from 10 am to 11 am at Lord of Glory Lutheran Church, 15550 190th Avenue NW, Elk River.  Funeral services will follow at 11 am with Pastor Marty Mably officiating.  Interment will be at Big Lake Cemetery.  Funeral arrangements are with the Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel of Monticello.

Jack was born to missionary parents on January 20, 1936, in Borneo, where he lived until the age of 12.  He also served in the US Army during the Korean War.  He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruth (Iverson) Meltzer; and a sister Jeanne.

He is survived by his wife, Marlene;  sons John (Ruth) of Big Lake, Brian of Brooklyn Center, Rev. Stephen (Julie) of Wadena, and Dennis of Isanti; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a brother, Don Meltzer of California.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Rejoice Lutheran Church in Clearwater for Margie P. Johnson, age 82, of Monticello, passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at the Monticello Hospital. Reverend Steven Timm will officiate. Burial will be at a later date.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Thursday at the Church. Arrangements are with the Daniel Funeral Home in Clearwater.
Margie was born on December 4, 1934 in Monticello to Arden and Martha (Georges) Daniels. She married Richard “Dick” Johnson on April 2, 1954 at St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Monticello. She lived in the New Hope, Rockford, Big Lake area and has been a resident of Clearwater since 2005. Margie worked for Honeywell for five years, but was mainly a Homemaker. She was a member of Rejoice Lutheran Church in Clearwater.
Margie enjoyed gardening, bird watching, baking, and reading.
She is survived by her children, Shelley (Orville) Daluge of Isanti, Terri Johnson of Clearwater, Patti Harney of Guttenberg, Iowa, Rick Johnson of Clearwater; son-in-law, Steve Fitch of Starbuck; 12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Eldon Daniels, Kathy Nelson, Jim Daniels and Elaine Piekert.
Margie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dick in December of 2016; daughter, Cynthia Fitch; brothers, Elwin and Wilbur; sisters, Marie Otsubo, Eva Poach and Elizabeth Klein.

Viola is survived by daughter, Marlys Baker of Big Lake Township; sons, Jerry of Big Lake Township and Kenneth of Princeton and sister, Anita Kivisto of Green Bay, Wisconsin, 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 20, 2017 at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Becker for Evelyn D. Riebel, 91, of Monticello and formerly of Becker, who passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2017. Parish prayers will be at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Friday evening. Burial will be 11:00 a.m. on Sat, January 21, 2017 at the Becker Cemetery.
Evelyn was born on September 4, 1925 in Burns, WY to Emil and Clara (Gramatz) Grabow. She was married to John H. Riebel in September of 1944. She lived in the Becker area from 1955 – 1997 prior to moving to Monticello. Evelyn was a homemaker on the family farm in Becker and also worked in housekeeping at the School of Nursing in St. Cloud for 10 years. She was a member of Mary of the Visitation Catholic Church in Becker and a member of the Becker American Legion Auxiliary Unit #193. Evelyn loved flowers and had a true talent in gardening. She belonged to the Becker Garden Club for many years and shared her talent of gardening and growing flowers through volunteer work at the Monticello Community Center.
Survivors include her longtime friend, Jim Weisner of Monticello; sons, John C., Sr. of Becker, Daniel (Darlene) of Big Lake, Gary (Barb) of Coon Rapids, Rich (Pat) of Big Lake, Roger (companion Bobby Moore) of Coon Rapids and Jim (Linda) of Becker; brother, Eugene (Judy) Grabow of Lincoln, NE; 12 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and 4 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Emil & Clara Grabow; husband, John H.; daughter, Rose Marie; daughter in law, Nancy; granddaughter, Christine; grandson, Jona; sister, Alice Riebel; and brother in law, George Riebel.

 Marcus Joseph Sabel, a 22 yr. old Graduate of Big Lake High School and resident of St Cloud, lost his struggle with depression on Monday January 16th, 2017. He will be deeply missed by his parents, Jeff and Kristi Sabel; grandparents Joe and Denise Sabel; his three little sisters, and little brother. Marcus was very much loved and will be missed deeply by many other family members and friends.

Dale was born in Princeton, MN on August 13, 1953 to George and Beverly Stonehouse of Big Lake, MN. He lost his battle with colon cancer surrounded by family in St. Cloud on January 24, 2017. Dale was an avid reader and enjoyed playing baseball and spending time at his father’s cabin near Longville, MN. He was an independent man who was very loyal to his family and friends. Dale once served as the Sports Editor for the West Sherburne Tribune, from 1979 – Mid 80’s. Dale will be deeply missed by his wife, Barb, of Blue Springs, MO; stepsons, Ian and Jared, of Blue Springs, MO; daughters Mallory, Joella, and Kayla, of Milwaukee, WI, Bloomington, MN, and Laramie, WY, respectively; father, George, of Big Lake, MN; sister, Diana, of Monticello, MN; and many more family members and friends. Dale is preceded in death by his mother, Beverly, and stepmother, Pat. A memorial will be held on Friday, January 27, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the VFW in Monticello. There will not be an officiated service, but there will be a period during which mourners are more than welcome to share a memory if they so choose. In lieu of gifts and flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.

Born March 9, 1926, passed away Jan 16, 2017. 
Preced in death by his parents, Vern and Martha McIalwain (nee Hartmann) a sister Evelyn, two daughters, Coreen and Colleen. He is survived by his wife Naomi and son, Merle, 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. He drove truck for most of his life working for Brenteson Construction. He loved to make and build things. After retirement, he and Naomi spent a number of years traveling and living in Arizona during the winter months. He had live in Big Lake since 1959. He passed away at the Foley Nursing Home, where he had spent the last two years of his life. The services and burial will be private as per his wishes. He will be creamated and his ashes to be interimed at the Big Lake Cemetery next spring.

Evan Clarence Johnson, age 91 of Elk River and formerly of Big Lake, went home to be with his Lord on January 12, 2017. Evan was born on March 30, 1925 in Buffalo, MN to Howard and Laura Belle (James) Johnson. He was employed as a Greyhound bus driver for 32 years, retiring in 1980. After retirement, he and his wife Marlys enjoyed traveling until settling back in the area in 2004. Evan is survived by his wife, Marlys; sons Dale Johnson of Big Lake, Richard Johnson of Big Lake, Harry (Lynn) Johnson of Texas; daughter Shirley (Clifford) Foote of Ramsey; and Marlys’ children Tom (Karen) Moores of Monticello, Terry (Tim) Shand of Montgomery, MN, and Shelley (Roger) Onsrud of Arcadia, WI; 2 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; 6 step grandchildren; 12 step great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  Darlene Olson, age 79, of Big Lake, Minnesota, passed away on February 1, 2017 in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her; parents, Samuel and Helen Schlesinger, husband Marlin Olson, brother, Robert (Shirley) Schlesinger; sister, Kay (Stephen) Sieg. She will be deeply missed by her; children, Scott, Sheila (Wayne) Wacloff, Sam (Mary); grandchildren; great grandchildren; sister, Carol (Mike) Connery of Florida; many beloved nieces, nephews, and good friends. Darlene was born August 2, 1937 and grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota and moved to Big Lake, Minnesota in 1971 where she worked at Monticello Nursing Home. Darlene enjoyed spending time playing cards with her family and crocheting blankets and reading.. Services will be held 11 am Monday Feb 20,  2017 at Saron Lutheran Church, 311 Lake Street S., Big Lake with private interment. Visitation at church 1 hour prior to the service .

James "Jim" Kruger

James “Jim” Kruger, age 65, passed away on February 5, 2017, at his home in Big Lake, MN, surrounded by love.
Jim was born on July 20, 1951, in St. Cloud, MN, to Theodore and Rosemary (Gruber) Kruger. He was raised with his eight sisters and three brothers in St. Cloud, graduating from Cathedral High School in 1969. After graduation Jim spent six years in the National Guard and also began his 48-year career in the Automotive Parts industry at National Bushing. He began dating the love of his life, Barbara “Barb” Eilers on New Year’s Eve, 1970, and they married on December 22, 1971.
In 1974, Jim was offered a job to manage the National Bushing store in Monticello, MN. In April of 1976, Jim and Barb moved to Big Lake Township with their two young children and quickly became part of the Monticello community. Their four children attended Monticello schools and Jim and Barb built many strong friendships while they raised their family.
Jim was a proud member of the Monticello Lions Club since 1979. He was Lions Club President from 1985-1986 and a recipient of the Melvin Jones Award in 1996. He loved being a Lion and considered his fellow Lion’s members as family.
Jim left his job as Manager of National Bushing in 1989 and began a new career in the Automotive Parts industry as a Manufacturer’s Representative. He spent the next 27 years traveling, selling and representing auto parts in more than six states. Jim loved his job and valued the relationships he built during his career. He was proud to work for N.A. Williams of Atlanta, GA, where he remained employed until his death.
Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing and enjoying the outdoors. He looked forward to his poker night with the guys, loved his weekly dinner dates with Barb and the Friday Night Gang, and hated to miss Monday morning coffee with his buddies. But, above all else, Jim loved being a husband, father and grandfather. He was proud of the family he raised with Barb and loved to tell people of his children’s accomplishments and his grandchildren’s successes. He was a family man through and through.
Jim will live on in the hearts of his wife Barb; his four children Jason (Sarah) Kruger of Portland, OR, Shannon (John) Vento of Golden Valley, MN, Joseph (Katie) Kruger of Eagan, MN, and Stephanie (Matt) Houselog of Golden Valley, MN; eight grandchildren, Sophia, Elijah, Bella, Olivia, Jack, Maya, Desmond and Reggie; seven sisters; three brothers; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Theodore; mother Rosemary; sister Ann (Kruger) Kittridge; and in-laws Gerald and Blanche Eilers.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM on Friday, February 10, at St. Henry Catholic Church, 1001 7th St. E., Monticello. Visitation will be from 4-8 PM on Thursday, February 9, 2017, with a time of sharing at 7:00 PM at the Peterson-Grimsmo Funeral Chapel, 250 East Broadway, Monticello Further visitation will be at the church for one hour prior to the service. Private interment at a later date. Memorials will be used to create a Lions Club Scholarship in Jim’s name.

Memorial Services will be 11 AM Monday, February 13, 2017 at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Becker for Arline Edith Goldman, age 89, who passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at Monticello Care Center. Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis on a later date. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home in Becker. Arline Edith Goldman was born July 3, 1927 in Wabeno, WI to Kenneth and Ila Carter and adopted by Talmer and Irma Thompson from Minneapolis. She was married to Donald Goldman on April, 10, 1948. Arline lived in Spring Lake Park, Mille Lacs and moved to Big Lake in 2001. She was employed at the coffee shop in Unity Hospital and retired in 1989.  Arline was a classy lady, loved the color purple and volunteered with Meals on Wheels and a member of the Spring Lake Park VFW Post 6587 Auxiliary. Chocolate hot fudge sauce and chow mein hot dish was Arline’s specialty. She was loving, caring, and such a wonderful person. She was involved with everyone’s lives and loved spending time with her grandchildren. Although a workaholic, she was social and found time to garden.
 She has four children, Kenneth (Nancy) of Coon Rapids, Ray (Dawn) of Harris, Donna (Mike Hansen) of Alexandria, and Diane (Mike) Baumgartner of Big Lake. She has 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don; brother, Harold and grandson Ro

Ronnie was born on June 10, 1967, at Mather AFB in California, to Ronnie and Venita (Adams) Soderquist.  He graduated from high school in Oklahoma.  He then entered the US Army and proudly served for ten years, including a tour of duty during Desert Storm.  He met his future wife DeAnna Randall in Germany, and the couple married in Buffalo, MN, on June 28, 1997.  He worked in the computer tech industry and had been employed by US Bank for the past 11 years.  Ronnie was a patient man who loved and cherished his family more than anything else in life.  He enjoyed hunting and guns.  He and his family had made their home in the Big Lake area for the past several years.
Ronnie is survived by his wife, DeAnna;  four children Carol (Michael) Smith, Shane, Brady and Grace;  granddaughter HarLee;  parents Ronnie and Venita Soderquist;  and sister Cyndi Hjembo.

Age 86, of Big Lake, Mn, passed away Feb. 6, 2017. Preceded in death by his mother, Felice Travers. Survived by wife, Ruth; sons, Raymond (Lisa) and Robert; 7 grandchildren; sister, Rsoemarie Struthers. Memorial service Sat. Feb. 25, 2017, 1 pm at Crowne Point Church, 7121 Bloomington Ave S., Richfield, MN 55423. Memorials to Crown Pointe Church.
